NOTE: Records were destroyed by the Turks who invaded the island in the mid 1500's. The first member of the family in Minorca shown on remaining records was Arnau de CORASSA. The proper name of the family was originally CORASSA . Arnau de CORASSA's son, Juan ARNAU de CORASSA, retained the de CORASSA. However the following generation; i.e., Juan Victori ARNAU, dropped the "de CORASSA" and the surname was ARNAU from then on. The family is known to have come to Minorca from the Catalan area of Spain (northeast area where France and Spain merge). [3][4]

The documentation for this genealogy came from church, census and other historical records in St Augustine, FL, through the research of Mrs Eleanor Philips Barnes, a noted genealogist of St Augustine. She obtained the pre-1768 data(date the family came to America from Minorca) from Father Fernando Mardi, Church Archivist of Minorca. Church records in Minorca date to the mid 1500's. Records prior to that time were destroyed by the Turks who invaded the island in the mid 1500's. Taken from:
